Poweredge 320 IDRAC Not Accessable

$

I have a Poweredge 320 that came with VMware ESXi 5.1 already installed on it. I am able to get to ESXi host via Vshphere client. However it is showing that I do not have persistent storage and need to create it. I tried creating it and it would not let me.

I have been told that I have a possible driver issue and need to resinstall VMware. In order to do that I need to get IDRAC working. I set it up however I cannot access it. I know I can access the server because I can ping the ESXi host and connecct via http to the host. But cannot connect to IDRAC. I have double checked the settings and all my ip and username information is there still.

I need to get through this so I can go on to trying to install VMWare and any drivers I need.

Do you guys have any ideas?

Thanks

How to install and configure iDRAC Service Module?

$

The Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller(iDRAC) Service Module is a lightweight optional software application that can be installed on Dell 12G Server or later. The iDRAC Service Module complements iDRAC interfaces – Graphical User Interface (GUI), RACADM CLI and Web Service Management (WSMAN) with additional monitoring data. You can configure the features on the supported operating system depending on the features to be installed and the unique integration needs in a work environment.

The iDRAC Service Module architecture uses IP socket communication and provides additional Server Management data (OS/device driver) to iDRAC and presents one-to-many consoles with access to Systems Management data through OS standard interfaces.

Hi All,

iDRAC/Lifecycle controller of a PowerEdge R720 (12G) is reporting a wrong BIOS version. I did BIOS upgrade using Lifecycle controller after a iDRAC firmware update. I did not yet applied NIC and RAID controller firmware update.

On boot it shows version 2.5.2, but both iDRAC/Lifecyle controller shows the former version 2.4.3 and suggest update. Any insight ?

Can I use 16GB vFlash from iDRAC 7 on iDRAC 6?

I have a PowerEdge R410 with iDRAC 6 Enterprise. Currently it has no vFlash card installed but I would like to get one. I would like to get the biggest card I can. I don't believe 16GB was an option when the R410 was current and I can't find any 16GB vFlash card that says it will work with IDRAC 6. I don't know if that's because of a physical limitation or if it's simply because it was never sold by Dell as an option for iDRAC 6. Does anyone know if the 16GB vFlash card will work with iDRAC 6?

iDrac 8 Virtual Console very unstable

I just got in a few new servers and have some strange issues with the iDrac 8 Virtual Console. I have one PE730, two PE730xd, and two PE430.

What will happen is that that sporadically it will stop responding for a second or so. It will sometimes show a "Link Interrupted" on the bottom and then the screen will show "Reconnecting" for about 30 seconds but it will reconnect and work for a bit. It happens quite frequently about 1-2 times every 5 minutes but not always.

What's really strange is the two PE430 iDrac modules don't have this issue, just the two PE730 servers. They are all on the same network and even the same switch. The ports look fine and I don't see any errors on the ports to suggest dropped packets or something else. I've even moved them around switches but it's always the same.  I've tried changing the performance settings and everything I can on the Java virtual console client but it makes no difference.

Any idea what I can try to fix this or at least find what is causing it? At least it works but it's very frustrating while working on it.

Thanks

I am using the below which works on 1.46.46 but not 1.57.57 or 1.66.65.

racadm -r $DRAC -u $Username -p $Password remoteimage -c -u $UserID -p $userPass -l //servername/share/isoname.iso

When I check it with remoteimage -s it is connected in 1.46.46 but not 1.57.57 or .1.66.65.  Any suggesstions?

Drac 5 console redirect issue

Hi all,

I've been having this issue setting up a Drac that's driving me mad and would be hugely appreciative if anyone could shed any light on this.

I have a PowerEdge 2950 running Windows server 2012 R2. I've recently picked up a Drac 5 card as I need the facility to use the console redirect and access the boot sequence options remotely.

I've installed the Drac, updated it to the latest firmware and can connect to it both from within the network and from outside of the network, login to the Drac page and access all the options however:

If I try and use the console in Java mode I just get a screen screen that says out of range, I've tested using Java 6 and Java 7 on the client machine thinking that it could be a Java issue, I've also added it to the list of sites in Java, still no luck.

I then tried using the Native Active X plugin in IE 11 however I get an error after the security prompts appear saying plugin failed to run, I've tried adding it to a list of compatible sites, changing the Active X security settings, adding it to local intranet and trusted sites and still no joy.

I've also tried this in Firefox and Chrome and still have the same problems.

I've ruled out a closed port issue on the firewall by using Wireshark to see what's happening as I had already opened all of the Drac 5 suggested ports but also did a test by opening ANY ports to that IP and it still won't show the console.

The most crucial part of the Drac 5 feature doesn't work and as you can imagine this is very annoying as its over an hours journey to get to the server if things go wrong.

Deos anyone have any ideas?

Thank you

Can anyone help me find the correct model number for DRAC in the R300 range.  We just inherited 20 servers but they don't have any DRAC so I would like to install them if I can still get the parts.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Problem updating iDRAC and LC on Poweredge R710

Hi,

I'm currently facing problems updating one of our Poweredge R710 (all others worked like a charm). Using OME I was able to install nearly all updates, but iDRAC (Firmware 1.10 --> 1.95) and Lifecycle Controller (Application 0 --> 1.6.0.73) won't exit successfully.

Error message in OME for ESM_Firmware_CMDN0_WN32_1.95_A00.EXE: "Execution operation exceeded specified timeout. The update failed to complete; you must restart your system and try again." (even after multiple server restarts the message is always the same).

Error message in OME for Lifecycle-Controller_Application_GFFFC_WN32_1.6.0.73_A00.EXE: "Update Failure: Secure Copy Failure - The Secure copy function has failed".

When starting the Server "System Services update required" is shown in the upper right corner of the bootscreen. I already tried ressetting the iDRAC (Ctrl + E during boot), power off the server for 30 minutes (power cables disconnected, re-connected, waited 5 minutes, powered up the server) updating thorugh System Build & Update Utility with SUU 7.3.1 and finally using the CentOS OM 7.3 Live DVD. None of it worked successfully and I have no more ideas. Maybe anyone else has one?

[REGRESSION] Broken User Authentication in iDRAC7, firmware 2.10

We've observed problem with new R320 that came with pre-loaded firmware 2.10.10.10. After setting password in iDRAC7 it was rejected on login. After spending some time on diagnosis we've discovered that only first 20 characters of full password (40 characters) were stored and can be used to login.

Dell R720 with old firmware (1.57.57) works fine - full length password (40 characters) is properly stored and accepted on login.

Password was changed in iDRAC Settings -> User Authentication section.

Trying to generate a new self-signed cert via the DRAC, but keep the size to 2048 bits.

racadm config -g cfgRacSecurity -o cfgRacSecCsrKeySize 2048

sslresetcfg sets the cert back to 1024...

racadm sslresetcfg

Any advise on how to get a 2048 self-signed certificate?

New iDRAC/Lifecycle combined 2.10.10.10 firmware and tFTP

We usually update our iDRAC firmware using racadm commands when SSH'd into the DRAC allowing the update to pull the firming file from our tftp server.

Since the new version is DRAC and LC combined am I still able to do this or do I have to run the .BIN file from the OS?
